Programme

  • We hold meeting every week (currently), so this is tailored to that. But things could change.
  • Activities here are entirely optional for group members to participate, if you wish to come and just sit down and make games, feel free.
  • Non-members are welcomed to our weekly meetings as well, however, they have restrictions put upon them as follow:
  1. They cannot use any software licensed to the group
  2. They cannot participate in jams, guest speaker sessions or any other event the committee deemed as a member-restricted event at any time

Semester 1
Week 1
  • Introduction and overview of programme
  • Advice advice advice! (tools guide)
  • Suggest people into groups [Optional, strongly advised], you can pick your own group or solo, for ‘warm-up mini jam’
  • For inexperienced group, we’ll show you the tools (tools guide)
  • The purpose of minjam is for inexperienced to get some exp.
Week 2
  • Warm-up minjam showcase, show us your game, we’ll show you ours
  • Survey of jam. We will make changes for all future jams.
Week 3
  • Jeremy on audio in games
Week 4
  • Official Game Jam 1 – these has prizes
  • We will explain rules of jam (jam guide)
  • We will show anything that may help you in the jam (jam guide)
  • You may swap groups if you want
  • Jam begin

From here on. All schedules are temporary and are expected to change. Reason is that these may be the busiest weeks of the year.

  • Play AAA and released hit indie titles – yes, just play games
  • If you are into games dev, you will start picking out points of why a game is good, this joins to next week’s session.
Week 6
  • Play and tip session
  • Each person/group plays another person’s/group’s game of similar genre (in case the person is the only one who made a game of certain genre, it’s open)
  • From this, people may learn from other’s game. Also give others advice on how to improve.
  • Game played should be one’s dev intend to develop further

Semester 2 tend to get more busy as the term progresses, hence we are holding the jam very early.

  • Jam week explained:
    As many devs will be busy throughout the week doing assignments and what not (hopefully they get a bit of game dev in every day). This session is an opportunity for them to really sit down and make their game.
  • This is also an opportunity for people who needs help to come ask for some.
